Latest coronavirus news: Georgia surpasses 20K cases of COVID-19

Georgia may have turned the corner on the number of deaths attributed to the coronavirus, new projections suggest. But officials and health experts cautioned the state is not yet in the clear.

7 p.m.: Since noon, Georgia surpassed 800 coronavirus-related deaths and 20,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health, Zachary Hansen reports.

noon: Officials announced nearly 800 Georgians have died of the coronavirus since the pandemic began. The newest data from the Georgia Department of Public Health shows 19,881 cases of the virus have been confirmed in the state, Chelsea Prince reported.

11:30 a.m.: Adrianne Murchison reports on the reaction of Sandy Springs residents to Gov. Brain Kemp's decision to begin reopening Georgia's economy.
