Atlanta United striker Giorgos Giakoumakis may be available to play in Wednesday’s match at Inter Miami, but his minutes likely will be limited, manager Gonzalo Pineda said Tuesday.

Giakoumakis sustained a hamstring injury four matches ago at Cincinnati that forced him to miss the match at Nashville, the U.S. Open Cup match against Charleston and the 1-0 loss Saturday against LAFC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Though Atlanta United is winless in its past nine league matches and has produced one goal in the past 434 minutes, Pineda said he won’t risk Giakoumakis’ long-term health, which also would negatively impact the club, by playing more than he advised by the team’s medical staff.

“I don’t want to put him in danger,” Pineda said. “Of course, we are missing some goals, we’re missing some things, but we’re creating.”

Centerback Noah Cobb also returned to training Monday. He sustained an ankle injury against Nashville. Stian Gregersen and Luis Abram started against LAFC. Pineda said that Derrick Williams, who came on as a second-half sub against LAFC, could see his minutes increase against Miami. Williams had sustained a calf injury that resulted in him missing nine matches.

The team will play without starting midfielder Bartosz Slisz, who is away from the team for a prearranged personal matter, and Tyler Wolff (knee).
