Milton is acquiring 15.8 acres on Providence Road, action that will expand its green space holdings to include all of Eads Lake.

The City Council approved paying $72,500 an acre, or slightly less than $1.15 million, to purchase the land at 13502 Providence. The sellers are GFLIRB LLC and Douglas R. Coe, according to the sales contract. The deal is to close after a due diligence period.

“The city of Milton has already acquired an adjacent, 88-acre property, which includes half of Eads Lake, as green space,” and the latest purchase “will allow the city to acquire the remainder of the lake,” Teresa Stickels, conservation project manager, said in a report to the council.

The Milton Greenspace Advisory Committee recommended the acquisition to protect water quality and habitat and provide for a possible, future trail connection from Bethany to Providence roads, Stickels said.
