Raphael Warnock
U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock, who lives in Atlanta, is the first Black Democrat to be elected to Senate from a southern state. Warnock first took office after a January 2021 special election runoff, and he was elected to a full six-year term in November 2022. He grew up in a Savannah housing project and attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, following in the footsteps of his hero, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. In 2005, he was named senior pastor of a congregation that King once led, Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Upon his election to the Senate, Warnock opted not to give up his post at Ebenezer and preaches there most Sundays. He has two children, Chloe and Caleb.
