A registered sex offender was arrested Friday after entering a Pickens County elementary school and walking into a bathroom with students inside, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Bruce Daniell apparently walked into Tate Elementary School just after 9 a.m. He was in the building about five minutes before being confronted by members of the school's staff and escorted to the office, the Pickens County School District said in a Facebook post.

School personnel ran the man’s driver’s license info when they discovered Daniell was listed on the sex offender registry, district officials said.

The school’s surveillance footage was reviewed and it was determined that Daniell had no direct interaction with any students, the district said.

“We want to assure all parents and our community that we take these situations seriously, the district’s statement read. “We must all work together as a community of students, parents and school personnel to keep our campuses safe. Our number one goal is to provide a safe and secure environment for all students and staff, and we will continue to remain vigilant in our efforts.”

A warrant was issued for Daniell’s arrest and he was taken into custody at his Dawson County home, police said.
