Georgia backup cornerback Vance Cuff has been suspended from Saturday's game at Vanderbilt after being arrested Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of driving with a suspended license and improperly "emerging from an alley."
Cuff was arrested by UGA Police, booked into the Clarke County jail at 3:24 p.m. and released less than an hour later on bonds of $1,750, according to the jail's booking report.
The arrest occurred after Cuff, riding a scooter, exited an alley next to UGA's Butts-Mehre athletics building and rode down Rutherford Street, which is temporarily closed because of construction. He was stopped for using the closed road and arrested when it was discovered he had a suspended license.
"He used poor judgment first in the route he took and also for being on the scooter at all with a suspended license," Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a statement today. "He will be suspended for the Vanderbilt game."
Cuff attended Georgia's football practice after being released from jail Tuesday afternoon. During the brief portion of practice open to the media, he was seen talking one-on-one with Richt on the sidelines and then running on an adjacent field under the supervision of strength and conditioning coach Dave Van Halanger.
Cuff, a junior, appeared in the first three games this season but has missed the past three with a knee injury. He had been expected to return to action this week.
