The Woodstock City Council has authorized the purchases of a new Ford Explorer for the fire department and 10 of the vehicles for the police department at a combined cost of more than $303,000.

The all-wheel-drive, pursuit-utility vehicles will be acquired from Wade Ford Inc., Smyrna, under a Georgia statewide contract. The fire department Explorer will cost $32,906.58, and the 10 police Explorers, $270,288.

Nine of the police vehicles will be marked, and one will be unmarked. They are intended to extend the fleet as well as replace vehicles no longer in service or operable, according to a council agenda packet.
