Sandy Springs has announced a series of workshops and a new category – Sanderson, the flying pig – in preparation for the 4th annual Sandy Springs Lantern Parade on the Chattahoochee River.
The free event is set for 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 15, from the Steel Canyon Golf Club to Morgan Falls Overlook Park.
Sanderson will lead this year’s parade with a “Swoop of Pigs,” residents walking with their own flying pig lanterns, in commemoration of the “When Pigs Fly” response to Sandy Springs’ decades-long effort to incorporate.
Workshops for residents wishing to make their own lanterns are set for June 4-11 at Sips and Strokes at City Walk, 230 Hammond Drive. The cost is $30 plus fees. They will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 (flying pigs); 10 a.m. (globes) and 2 p.m. (illuminated parasols) Saturday, June 8; and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11 (flying pigs).
Also, a special lantern-making event and parade is planned for Thursday, June 6, for patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite. Information: https://bit.ly/2pQKLPW
