A Gwinnett County Burger King failed its second consecutive health inspection after a “black mold-like substance” was found inside the restaurant’s ice machine, county records show.
The burger restaurant on Centerville Highway earned a 54/U on its Oct. 12 inspection, dropping from it previous failing grade, a 65/U earned on Oct. 7. The store’s permit was briefly suspended Thursday night until all violations were corrected. The permit was restored and the store was re-opened that night, the report said.
The designated “person in charge” was “not demonstrating active manager control duties” in the restaurant, according to the inspection report. Multiple open employee water bottles were stored next to the ice machine, and four boxes of unwashed tomatoes was stored over boxes of vanilla soft serve ice cream mix in the walk-in cooler, according to the report.
Parmesan cheese was held for more than the maximum four hours on a food prep station and chemical bottles were stored above boxes of soda, the report said. The restaurant was also cited for having trash on the floor of a storage room and boxes stuck underneath the outdoor dumpster.
Burger King did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Re-inspections are typically conducted within 10 days of a failure.
