Henry County voters in District 1 handed incumbent commissioner Bo Moss his walking papers Tuesday, electing his challenger as their new leader. They also selected the Republican challenger for the county’s top elected job.

Public safety veteran and business owner Johnny Wilson is the new District 1 commissioner. There was no democratic challenger, effectively guaranteeing Wilson the job in November.

“We are very humbled and grateful for all the support that we have received during this long campaign. Thanks to you all,” Wilson posted on his campaign Facebook page Tuesday.

Republican June Wood, a retired Georgia Power executive who lives in McDonough, beat Lisa McGarity Tuesday for the chance to face off against Democrat Carlotta Harrell on Nov. 8 in the race for the county’s top seat, commission chairman. Current chairman Tommy Smith decided not to seek another term.
