Educents: the marketplace for affordable learning materials

In only three years, Educents, the first and only website to offer educators affordable learning materials, has helped more than 500,000 educators save money on classroom essentials.

Since it was founded in 2013 by CEO Kate Whiting and co-founder Kaitlyn Trabucco, Educents has saved educators more than $20 million dollars on educational materials. Whiting spent over a decade in educational publishing and her goal was to help educators and parents obtain the best products to help children, while simultaneously helping small businesses flourish.

"Educents is powered by a community of independent educators and active parents who invent, review, and improve solutions to help kids with math, reading, science—you name it," said Whiting.

According to Whiting, the secret to Educents' success is due to its direct seller to consumer system.

"Since Educents is an online marketplace, we don't have the typical overhead costs of a brick and mortar retailer," she said. "Our sellers sell direct to consumers, eliminating fees for distribution."

Educents sells a range of unique educational materials such as worksheets, lesson plans, books, games, study guides and more. The products are useful to students in kindergarten through 12th grade, as well to college students.

Educents isn't only beneficial to teachers. In fact, Educents has also provided parents, homeschoolers, and schools with thousands of affordable, innovative products to help students learn.

Anyone is welcome to become a seller with Educents. All one has to do is visit Educents.com and click on "become a seller." From there, a prospective seller will set up a storefront and join the other 1,300 independent inventors who have joined the Educents seller community.

"We provide sellers the tools and the feedback they need to make the best educational products for our customers," said Whiting. "It is really the community of shared knowledge that makes Educents a powerful resource."

There are several resources that parents and teachers can use to purchase educational supplies. However, Educents consists of unique products that sellers create to be exclusively sold on Educents.com that are affordable to almost anyone.

"Every day we receive love letters from parents and educators in the Educents community about the impact we've had, whether kids have finally learned their multiplication tables or we've helped a mother get started homeschooling," Whiting said. "It's very rewarding."

In order to purchase from Educents, teachers, parents, homeschoolers, or whomever it may be need to register for an account on Educents.com and get started shopping.
