Looking back, it might be easy to see how inappropriate and tone-deaf Pepsi’s controversial commercial featuring Kendall Jenner and the Black Lives Matter movement was, but it wasn’t apparent to the soda giant or those working on the ad in the run-up to the release.

Pepsi pulled the ad barely a day after releasing it following a social media backlash, then apologized to the public and to Jenner.

“Saturday Night Live” spoofed the ad over the weekend. The skit features Beck Bennett as the writer-director on set and about to shoot the commercial. He calls his sister to share the concept, then speaks with another family member, before finally asking if a black neighbor could give her opinion.

“What would you do if you were in my situation?” Bennett asked the neighbor as a crew is getting ready to shoot the commercial. He listened for a second then responded, “Just run to my car?”

Cecily Strong played Jenner in the spoof.
