Hot dogs are an American classic, but in the hands of a skilled chef, they can become something so much more.

Several well-known Atlanta chefs will be trying their hand at putting their own twist on the hot dog next month as part of The Mercury's "Helpful Hot Dog" initiative.

For the second year, the Ponce City Market restaurant has recruited chefs to participate in a weekly rotating collaboration at The Shed, Ponce City Market's farmers market . You'll be able to sample dogs from chefs including Nick Leahy of Saltyard, Zeb Stevenson or Watershed, the team at Fox Bros. BBQ, Andrew Smith of West Egg and Cameron Thompson of Farm Burger.

Beef hot dogs will be $5 and chicken and veggie dogs $6, with all proceeds benefiting a different charitable partner each week. Last year's recipients included Wholesome Wave Georgia, Lost ‘N Found Youth, Camp Twin Lakes, American Friend Service Committee, the Isaiah House, Freedom University, Truly Living Well Farm and the Housing Justice League.

The initiative will kick off the season on Saturday, March 4 and will be available Saturdays from noon-3 p.m.
