Daryl Shular joins the ranks of a prestigious group of 68 chefs in the United States that are Certified Master Chefs (CMC).
The rigorous exam is an eight day process that involves proficiency tests on culinary techniques and styles, and cuisines ranging from healthy cooking, continental, Northern European, catering and freestyle cooking. A minimum score of 75 was required to pass, and out of the ten chefs from around the country who took the exam, Shular was one of only two to pass.
“Taking the Certified Master Chef exam was the challenge of a lifetime, and obtaining the CMC recognition has become the reward of a lifetime,” said Shular. “The eight days of the exam challenged not only my culinary skills, but also the depth of my heart and the strength of my determination.... While many chefs may perceive this test to be impossible to pass, it is truly a test that challenges all areas of who you are as a chef and is an attainable goal."
Shular is director of education and executive chef at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta. The Certified Master Chef exam is considered the highest and most demanding of the American Culinary Federation's (ACF) certification levels.
