Georgia Tech coach Brian Gregory suspended junior swingman Glen Rice Jr. three games for a violation of team rules, the team announced before its season opener at Gwinnett Arena on Friday.

Rice sat out Friday's game against Florida A&M and also will miss Monday's game against Delaware State and Thursday's game against Saint's Joseph's in the Charleston (S.C.) Classic. Gregory wouldn't divulge the specifics of Rice's violation.

"Guys are learnng that there are consequences and there also will be growth," Gregory said after Tech's 92-59 victory against FAMU. "We are here to help him grow."

Rice started 23 games last season and is Tech's returning leader in scoring and assists. He clashed last season with former Tech coach Paul Hewitt, who benched him for the final five games for undisclosed disciplinary reasons.

Gregory said in August that he was "very pleased" with Rice's development.

"I think he's grown a lot in the six months I've been here," Gregory said Friday. "He's not perfect, and so a mistake was made and we need to grow for that."
