North Georgia man gets 25 years for child molestation conviction

A 65-year-old North Georgia man was sentenced to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole for molesting two underage girls over a period of years.

Randal Troy Harris of Resaca was convicted in Murray County on two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of aggravated child molestation, according to District Attorney Bert Poston.

He also was sentenced to 25 years on one count of incest, 10 years each on four counts of child molestation, 10 years each on two counts of influencing a witness and one year each on two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.

He was convicted Dec. 7 after a weeklong trial. Jurors deliberated for about an hour.

The child molestation took place over a period of years before the victims told of the abuse through the Murray and Whitfield County school systems.
