A woman said she wants the person who stole her medically equipped truck from a parking lot near a hospital to give it back.
Beth Nguyen was diagnosed with syringomyelia in 2013, she told Channel 2 Action News. The rare disorder is a fluid-filled cyst that develops in the spinal cord, according to the Mayo Clinic. Over time, if it enlarges, the cyst can cause pain and weakness.
“When I try to walk any distance, my oxygen falls, my blood pressure is all over the board, I have numbness from my waist to my feet, slurred speech,” Nguyen told Channel 2.
Nguyen said her red Ford Super Duty pickup truck restored her quality of life. She and her husband spent more than $15,000 on upgrades for the truck, including charging outlets for her oxygen equipment and special platforms.
"It gave me independence, which was priceless," she said.
Nguyen told Channel 2 her husband works at Southside Medical Center and parked the truck in a lot across the street with other employee vehicles. On Friday morning, someone stole it, she said.
“Honestly, not being able to use my wheelchair, not being able to keep my oxygen equipment charged, is like condemning me back to bed and home," Nguyen said.
The truck was parked outside the view of a surveillance camera, police told the news station.
Nguyen said she just wants the person who took the vehicle to return it.
“Even though the truck is taken, just leave it somewhere please, because we need it back,” she said.
The truck is a 2005 F-250 with Georgia tag PDH8919. Anyone with information on where the truck might be is asked to call Atlanta police at 404-614-6544.
