Warm up this winter with a good cup of hot chocolate—with or without alcohol, thank you very much.

While you can always grab a box of the powdery stuff with the hard-as-nails white squares (those are supposed to be marshmallows), visit the following four spots in metro Atlanta for something that’s a little more gourmet.

The El Felix: Cool ingredients can warm you up. Take, for instance, a mix of Nestle-Abuelita Mexican Chocolate, cocoa, smoked Serrano powder, condensed milk and cream topped with house-made mole whipped cream and shaved dark chocolate, which creates  gourmet-flavored hot chocolate. For something a little more grown up, ask for the Reposado tequila and sherry version. 1130 Avalon Blvd. #1030, Alpharetta. 678-248-5239.

Corso Coffee: Here, the hot chocolate is handcrafted in small batches and the mixture is milk-based with added flavors of vanilla and hazelnut to make it reminiscent of drinking Nutella. To cut a bit of the sweetness and to add depth of flavor, unsweetened cocoa powder is added then topped off with vanilla-flavored whipped cream. 3065 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta. 678-553-9009.

JCT. Kitchen & Bar: Sometimes, you want a little extra kick in your cup, correct? This restaurant offers Mexican hot chocolate with Hangar One chipotle vodka, coffee liquor, house-made hot chocolate and sea salt. There is also the west side chocolate option, made with bourbon, Cherry Heering, Luxardo Maraschino, hot chocolate and cinnamon. 1198 Howell Mill Road, #18, Atlanta. 404-355-2252.

Shake Shack: The winter season brings good tidings and cheer in the form of a salted caramel hot chocolate. Made with a blend of bittersweet dark chocolate, caramel sauce, sea salt and milk then topped with whipped cream, this drink is perfect pick-me-up for chilly days. 3035 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta. 470-809-9201.
