The Northside has had a rough day, and the evening commute hasn’t provided any relief.
I-85 drivers were stifled by a car fire past Ga. 400 about lunchtime, but those delays are long gone, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
The heavy delays are now in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties.
A rollover crash briefly blocked all northbound lanes of I-85 at Ga. 317, the Traffic Center reported. Only two left lanes remain blocked, but delays are picking up quickly.
On the same interstate but in a different county, a stalled tractor-trailer is blocking a middle lane of I-85 North before Pleasantdale Road in DeKalb, the Traffic Center reported. That incident isn’t helping delays on I-285, which are already lengthy due to the increased volume during the drive home.
Also in DeKalb, a gas leak has caused evacuations to a portion of the Peachtree Pavilion complex on Peachtree Road in Doraville, DeKalb County Fire Rescue told AJC.com. The road has been shut down to repair the leak.

More typical summertime weather for North Georgia is returning just in time for the start of the school year.
After several days of dry air, comfortable temperatures and sunshine last week, humidity and rain chances are going back up, according to Channel 2 Action News. The change, at least, will be gradual.
“I’m keeping an eye on rain chances that are going to go up this week, especially by Thursday and Friday,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “As you plan ahead, think ahead for your week, Thursday and Friday are going to be pretty wet days across North Georgia.”
The rain chance was 30% Monday, according to Channel 2. Only a few showers have popped up across metro Atlanta, but the rain isn’t affecting traffic much.
Those with asthma or other respiratory issues, the young and the elderly will want to limit time outside Monday as the air quality diminishes, he said.
A Code Orange smog alert is in effect, according to the National Weather Service.

With increased humidity, temperatures are going up. Much of the region started out pretty comfortable in the 70s, and Atlanta warmed through the upper 80s during the afternoon, reaching 87 at 5:45 p.m.
Showers and storms will become more widespread to end the week, according to the latest forecast. The rain chances hold at about 30% through Wednesday before going up to 40% Thursday and 60% Friday.
