The current plan for John Jenkins is continued rest and physcial therapy for the nerve pain in his leg associated with the back problem that has plagued him this season, according to Hawks general manger Danny Ferry.

Jenkins remained in Atlanta as the Hawks left for a two-game road trip which concludes Tuesday against the Celtics. He is listed as out with lower back pain.

The guard, a first-round pick in 2012, has been frustrated by the injury. He missed two months this summer with a lower back injury. It flared up at the start of training camp and cost him all but the final two exhibition games. He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week that he has been dealing with nerve pain in his leg for much of the season. It struck again before the Hawks played at Cleveland Thursday. He will miss his fourth straight game Tuesday.

Jenkins said he, his agent and team management would discuss a course of action to deal with the lingering issue. While surgery could be an option if the situation does not get better, Jenkins will be rested and receive treatment in the short term.

“My back is fine,” Jenkins told the AJC last week. “It’s a pain going down my leg. It’s irritating. It’s uncomfortable. I’m dealing with that. I’ll probably get another epidural soon. I’m weighing my options on what I need to do to eliminate this thing forever. It’s been too long. It’s been preventing me from playing the way I need to be playing. I’m trying to play on it, play through it. It’s time to just get it out of the way forever.”
