David Ragan, who is from Unadilla and considers Atlanta Motor Speedway his home track, will provide a daily diary through Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at AMS. Saturday’s entry:
It was kind of a relaxing morning. I got to sleep in a little bit, until about 8:15. I hope my wife doesn’t read this because she would not be happy. I caught up on some emails. I sat at my computer and made some notes because so much happens over the course of a weekend.
I made myself some breakfast, cooked some eggs and toast. Usually I’m a cereal-and-oatmeal kind of guy, but I had some food that was probably going to spoil because I’m not taking the bus to Vegas, California or Phoenix.
I watched some of the coverage of Xfinity Series qualifying on Fox Sports 1 and got ready for our Happy Hour.
I felt like our M&M’s Crispy Toyota was pretty good. We made a few gains throughout the practice, chased the race track a little bit. We still need to be a little better for Sunday, but I was really happy with the balance of the car. We just need the front tires to work a little better early in the run and manage our forward drive so we won’t burn the rear tires off later in the run.
I ate some soup for lunch that they had on the (No.) 18 hauler. We had a team meeting in the afternoon. The good thing about having some teammates is we can learn some things, and that will help me and Adam Stevens out a lot because he’s a rookie on the Cup Series, and I’m new to this team.
After that, I kicked back and watched some of the doubleheader here at the track. Tonight I’m going to call Kyle (Busch) and catch up with him, and I’m going to call my mom and wish her a happy birthday. She was born on (Feb. 29), but we always celebrate the last day of February.
I’m also going to call home and do a little Facetiming with my daughter Julia. She’s old enough that she can kind of recognize me through the phone. I’ll be excited to get back to North Carolina Sunday night and get to see them.
