When Ted Turner, no not the former Braves’ owner, runs The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, children lined alongside the road think he’s Pikachu, not recognizing the iconic Pacman costume that covers his upper body.
“A lot of kids don’t know what Pacman is,” said Turner, a Buckhead resident who’s played the Pacman video game since he was a child. “Their parents have to tell them who it is, and then they think it’s the coolest thing every.”
On Saturday, for the third consecutive year Turner, now an adult, wore his Pacman costume while running the Peachtree. July 4th is the only day Turner wears the costume anymore. He used to wear it for Halloween, but people told him he couldn’t wear the same thing every year.
While the outfit appears cumbersome, Turner said it’s light and made of premium polyester.
One of Turner’s friends usually wears a ghost costume during the Peachtree, and Turner runs behind him, mimicking the video game. But Turner’s friend didn’t run the Peachtree on Saturday.
