Georgia State announced Tuesday the name of the football field inside Georgia State Stadium will be named after Parker H. “Pete” Petit.
Petit, who earned his MBA in finance at Georgia State’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business, is the chairman and chief executive officer of MiMedx Group who donated $10 million to Georgia State in support of the Athletics program.
“Pete Petit has been a long-time generous benefactor of Georgia State and his impact on our university cannot be overstated,” Georgia State president Mark P. Becker, said in a statement. “We are extremely proud to name the playing field in Georgia State Stadium in his honor.”
Meanwhile, the school is seeking a naming-rights deal for the stadium. Georgia State Stadium remains the name until the school reaches such an agreement.
Petit, who is chair of the Steering Committee for Georgia State’s $300 million Burning Bright fund-raising campaign, has also donated $5 million to the construction of Georgia State’s Parker H. Petit Science Center.
Petit’s is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia, the Georgia State Business School Hall of Fame, the Georgia Tech Engineering Hall of Fame and the Board of Directors of the Georgia Research Alliance.
“This field and stadium are just one of the many successes Georgia State has accomplished in a matter of a few years,” Petit said in a statement. “Georgia State is destined to become one of the most respected urban universities in this country because of this series of successes, which have been a result of its leadership.”
