“There's been an awakening with the Falcons' pass rush… Have you felt it?"
The worlds of pop culture entertainment and sports collided in sports anchor Wes Blankenship’s Sunday night Falcons versus Jaguars recap.
The reporter and anchor for Macon’s CBS-affiliated WMAZ-TV accumulated an impressive 20 plus "Star Wars" references during his two minute long report of the Falcons' win.
A celebratory occasion for both, this weekend "Start Wars: The Force Awakens" broke opening weekend box office records and the Falcons broke a six-game losing streak.
The “seventh installment of this run was an awakening,” the UGA graduate said in the opening of his recap of “The Millennium Falcons” game.
Some highlights from his script include calling Jaguars' Paul Posluszny’s one-handed interception (one of his hands is currently in a cast) as intercepted “with just a hand solo."
The force may have been strong enough to lead the Falcons to be able to "Obi won a game for the first time since October 25th" but the road ahead is paved with more challenges.
"Kyle Shanahan thinks this offense is fully operational," Blankenship proclaimed.
That will be put to the test when the Falcons host the Carolina Panthers in the Georgia Dome on Sunday Dec. 27.
Watch Blankenship's report below and see if you can catch all of the Star Wars references.
