With Georgia Tech in an open week, first-year freshman Qua Searcy is getting a look at cornerback. Searcy, who came to Tech from Lamar County High along with twins Lance and Lawrence Austin (also cornerbacks), has been practicing at wide receiver to this point but has yet to play.

“I just think he’s a good player, and he was kind of buried there at receiver,” coach Paul Johnson said. “I don’t know that he’s going to play. I just want to give him a chance.”

Johnson said Searcy was excited for the opportunity. Johnson also acknowledged that Searcy would have a lot to learn in a small timeframe in order to demonstrate that he can contribute enough to merit losing his redshirt four games into the season. He is training at the field cornerback position, where Chris Milton is starting. On the depth chart, Milton is backed up by Lawrence Austin and Lynn Griffin.
