Watching Georgia Tech’s 38-21 win over Tulane on video did not make coach Paul Johnson any more pleased with what he saw.
“We’ve got to get a lot better,” Johnson said. “Our fundamental stuff, we’re not as good as we need to be.”
The three turnovers were a primary concern to quarterbacks and B-backs coach Bryan Cook. Quarterback Justin Thomas had a hand in all three, two fumbles and an interception. He said one fumble and the interception were bad decisions and the other fumble was a technical issue.
“You’ve got to try to put ’em in those situations,” Cook said. “You’ve got to try to replicate what they’re going to see in the game during the week. That’s how we try to practice it.”
Offensively, Tech did block players to the ground 99 times in 65 plays, well ahead of the goal for a 1/1 ratio. The offensive line had about two thirds of the total.
“The receivers and the A-backs also contributed a ton,” offensive line coach Mike Sewak said.
