Country music recording star Lee Greenwood has been signed by UGA to play with the Redcoat Band at halftime of the Georgia’s football game against Charleston Southern on Nov. 22.
Greenwood, who has achieved national game for his 1984 patriotic hit “God Bless the USA,” will play that song during halftime ceremonies on what the Bulldogs have deemed as “military appreciation day.
Greenwood’s appearance highlights a fall football season in which UGA will be debuting a lot of new amenities at Sanford Stadium. Among the new perks for those in attendance:
A new sound system has been installed to improve sound quality in all areas of the stadium.
A new repertoire of in-game music thanks to SEC amended bylaws related to institutionally-controlled sound systems.
A multi-million dollar digital antennae system (DAS) donated by AT&T and other cellular providers that is designed to enable fans to make phone calls, send text messages and connect to their provider’s 4G or LTE network at minimal drop rates.
Increased concession areas outfitted with flat-screen televisions tuned into game action.
Those are just a few of several improvements Georgia’s Athletic Association has made in an attempt in improve the fan experience for those attending games. Attendance at stadiums has been trending downward in recent years due to improved home entertainment technologies and more games being televised.
