Kennesaw State fired softball coach Torrence Acheson effective immediately after an investigation found that he violated the school’s sexual-harassment policy with inappropriate comments directed at team members.
The investigation by the school’s Title IX committee began after an anonymous letter was sent to different people in the school’s administration.
“We are extremely disappointed in coach Acheson’s behavior and apologize to our student-athletes and their parents,” KSU interim president Houston D. Davis said in a statement given to the media. “This type of conduct simply will not be tolerated at Kennesaw State.”
Acheson is in his fourth season at Kennesaw State and was going to begin his second full season as head coach. He had a record of 62-47 with the Owls.
In a release, Kennesaw State said it will implement several steps to improve its Title IX compliance, including increasing training, new reporting structures and enhanced protocols.
