Austin Donaldson, a point guard who led Jonesboro High to back-to-back state titles, has signed a financial aid agreement with Georgia State.

Donaldson averaged 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season for the Cardinals, which won 29 games.

“Austin is the true point guard that fits perfect into our program,” Georgia State coach Ron Hunter said in a prepared statement. “I honestly believe he was born to be a point guard as he handles the ball well and doesn’t turn it over.”

Donaldson originally signed with Tennessee-Chattanooga but was released from his letter of intent following coach Will Wade’s resignation.

The Panthers, which advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament last year, have one scholarship remaining and hope to sign a forward or center.

The Class of 2015 now includes Donaldson, small forward Malik Benlevi of Jenkins High, and Alabama transfer Devin Mitchell, who is also a point guard. Mitchell will have to sit out a year per the NCAA’s transfer rules.
