AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn’s Shon Coleman is contending for a starting job four years after being diagnosed with cancer.
The sophomore is battling with Patrick Miller this spring to replace star left tackle Greg Robinson.
Coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that Coleman “definitely looks like the guy that we recruited four years ago when he was healthy.”
He was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia shortly after signing with Auburn in 2010.
Coleman has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. He saw his first game action late in the Arkansas State game on Sept. 7.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder was one of the nation’s top prospects.
Auburn defensive tackle Gabe Wright has been impressed. He says Coleman is one of the best run-blockers he’s ever seen.
