Dansby Swanson’s opinion carries some weight in the South. The former Vanderbilt star and Atlanta Braves shortstop is one of the biggest names in the region. He also happens to be a huge college football fan, both of the Commodores and the sport as a whole.
On Friday, the Braves put a video together featuring Swanson making his picks for five week one games in the SEC: Alabama/Florida State, Tennessee/Georgia Tech, Florida/Michigan, South Carolina/NC State, and, of course, Vanderbilt/Middle Tennessee State:
Swanson’s choices broke down as follows:
- Alabama over Florida State
- Georgia Tech over Tennessee
- Michigan over Florida
- NC State over South Carolina
- Vanderbilt over Middle Tennessee State
That might seem like a lot of upsets to some SEC fans, but each of Tennessee, Florida and South Carolina does seem to have a legitimate shot at losing on Saturday. Time will tell, of course, whether Swanson turns out to be correct or not.
