The City of Stone Mountain closed its courthouse through the end of the month after a person tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a municipal court session.

City Manager ChaQuias Miller-Thornton said the city was notified of the positive test Friday, according to a news release. The person who tested positive for the coronavirus attended a court session the day before, and anyone who attended that session may have been exposed.

The building, located at 875 Main St., will undergo a deep cleaning before court sessions are allowed to resume Feb. 1. Court sessions and hearings scheduled through Jan. 29 will be rescheduled.

Stone Mountain is the second DeKalb County city to have a positive COVID-19 case take place following a court session this year.

A Chamblee staff member tested positive last week, but the city decided not to close its municipal courthouse. The city said everyone followed social distancing guidelines, so no one should have been exposed.

Several other metro Atlanta cities, including Alpharetta, Dunwoody and Roswell, have had court scheduled affected by COVID-19 cases over the past few months.
