Witness testimony is expected to begin this morning in the state ethics commission civil trial.
Former commission Chairman Patrick Millsaps is among those scheduled to be called to testify in Fulton County Superior Court as Stacey Kalberman’s lawsuit is heard by a jury.
Kalberman, the former commission director, has sued her former employer and claims she was forced from her job for investigating Gov. Nathan Deal’s 2010 campaign.
A jury in the case was sworn in late Monday. Today will start with opening arguments and Millsaps is expected to lead off the testimony. Millsaps was chairman when Kalberman and her top deputy, Sherilyn Streicker, presented draft subpoenas for records related to a series of complaints filed against Deal’s campaign.
Shortly after, however, Millsaps told Kalberman the agency faced a financial crisis and said her salary would be slashed and Streicker’s job would be eliminated.
