Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz seems very pleased that Democrat and former President Jimmy Carter picked Donald Trump as his preferred Republican candidate.
To use phrasing from a Washington Post article about Carter's comments, the Texas senator positively "crowed."
“Get the video, I want the video. I’m going to pay to air Jimmy Carter attacking me,” Cruz said to a crowd of several hundred in Nashua, N.H.
During a visit to the House of Lords on Wednesday, Carter said he expects Hillary Clinton to win the party's nod. But when the discussion turned to the GOP race, Carter surprised many in attendance when he said, if forced, he would choose the brash billionaire over the firebrand tea party favorite.
“The reason is, Trump has proven already he’s completely malleable,” Carter said. “I don’t think he has any fixed (positions) he’d go the White House and fight for. On the other hand, Ted Cruz is not malleable. He has far right wing policies he’d pursue if he became president.”
