If you saw a black cloud of smoke hanging above Atlanta on Monday morning, don’t worry, another bridge didn’t catch fire.
A tractor-trailer fire caused traffic delays on I-285, but firefighters extinguished the flames quickly and moved the truck off to the shoulder. There were no injuries.
The incident began at 9 :22 a.m., according to the hero unit that responded to the call. The driver, Islam Rasheed, was headed to Athens with an empty trailer to pick up a shipment. He noticed smoke, pulled over and then saw the flames.
The cause of the fire isn’t known at this time.
Emergency services arrived to the scene around 9:30 a.m. and initially had to close four lanes of traffic. All lanes were reopened by 10: 25 a.m.
The truck caught fire near Sandy Springs on an eastbound lane of I-285, just after the exit for GA 400.
Fire crews from Sandy Springs are still working at the scene, officials said.
