The Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve is hosting a series of events this month.
Arabia Mountain is part of the 2,200-acre DeKalb County preserve, located at 3787 Klondike Road, Lithonia. The preserve also includes exposed granite, wetlands, pine and oak forests, streams and two lakes.
The events:
- South River Stroll, Aug. 13, at 8 a.m.: Join "Ranger Robby" for a short and scenic stroll along the South River.
- Lithonia Farmer's Market Hike 'n' Bike, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m.: A six-mile roundtrip bike ride to the Lithonia Farmer's Market. Also includes a stop to hike the 1.5 mile Vaughters Farm Loop trail and learn about the cultural history of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.
- Stewardship Saturday Volunteer Day, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m.: Help clean trails, pick up trash or remove invasive species. Tools and gloves provided.
- Interpretive and Recreational Hiking, every Friday and Sunday throughout the month at 8 a.m.: Hike and learn about the preserve's natural and cultural resources. Hikes are moderate for two to three hours.
Participants should dress appropriately for the weather and bring water.
