South Fulton city government officials have announced it will postpone all cases in its municipal court and ban city gatherings of 250 or more people.
The city of 100,000 residents had a teacher faint in class at Bear Creek Middle School a week ago, then another teacher who works at Woodland Middle School tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus. Fulton County school buildings are closed "until further notice."
Municipal courts handle things like traffic violations and low-level offenses, but they are the first point of contact for many in the judicial system.

The court systems in Fulton, Gwinnett and Henry counties on have suspended jury trials. Doraville’s city court declared a 30-day hiatus.
Officials with the city of Atlanta’s municipal court said the city’s judicial system will continue but will be “substantially abbreviated.”
In South Fulton, the city government has also closed its parks and recreation facilities.

“We have quickly taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of our residents and staff,” said Mayor Bill Edwards.
The South Fulton City Council voted this week to close City Council meetings and upcoming meetings to the public “to minimize the risk of exposure to the virus. All meetings will continue to be streamed live on YouTube.” The city added that residents can “participate in a virtual public comments section.”
