Completion is expected late this year on the $4.5 million South Barrett Reliever phase two roundabout. Of this amount, funding is around $1.5 million from the Town Center Community Improvement District, $1.2 million from the State Road and Tollway Authority and Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank and nearly $1.8 million by the Cobb County Department of Transportation.
The goal of this three-phase project is to provide an alternate route around one of the busiest roads in the Town Center area, Barrett Parkway. Completed in 2010, phase one included the realignment of Greers Chapel Road at its intersection with Barrett Lakes Boulevard and the widening of the roadway to four lanes, including a 20-foot raised median, from Cobb Parkway to Barrett Parkway.
Phase one costs were $3.7 million paid by the Town Center CID and $585,000 by the Cobb County DOT for a total of almost $4.3 million.
This second phase will realign Barrett Lakes Boulevard at Shiloh Valley Drive, including a two-lane roundabout at the intersection. To make pedestrian travel easier, crosswalks and a five-foot sidewalk will be built around the roundabout with lighting and landscaping.
Phase three will extend the reliever over I-75 and improve Roberts Court between the reliever and Barrett Parkway to the east. Preliminary engineering for this phase is underway with construction funding sources to be announced later - though the cost for this phase is estimated at $22.1 million.
The three phases of the South Barrett Reliever will cost nearly $30.1 million to be paid in a joint effort between the Town Center CID, SRTA, GTIB and Cobb County DOT.
