Decatur police say a large house party involving teenagers ended with an altercation and gunshots.

At about 9:15 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the 100 block of Fairview Street off Sycamore Drive and found a “large number of teens,” according to a police statement Monday. None had apparently been hit by the gunfire.

Some of the teens said they were on the porch when 15 to 20 males approached. The approaching group was “talking loudly and acting disorderly and requesting to come in to join the party,” Lt. Jennifer Ross said. “When they were turned away, the males began banging and kicking on the door and a front window and an altercation ensued.”

One girl said she was pushed. A glass table on the porch was broken. The group of males left the property and began walking eastbound on Fairview Road and, soon, gunshots could be heard, Ross said.

An 18-year-old woman who lives at the home said her parents were out of town.

Teens suspected of alcohol use were released to their parents.

Three shell casings were found near the home, Ross said.
