The Sandy Springs City Council on Dec. 15 adopted a set of interim development guidelines designed to serve until the city finishes updating its Comprehensive Land Use Plan in the fall of 2016.

The regulations focus on rezoning and use-permit requests in the downtown (City Center) area, around Perimeter Center and along parts of the Roswell Road corridor. City officials said the guidelines establish parameters on land use, density, parking, public space and project quality in rezoning/permit cases. Among the guidelines; mixed-use zoning applications have to provide an alternate use of retail, hotel or office space not associated with leasing of the residential property or intended primarily for the use of those residents.

The city started updating its land-use plan — an effort called The Next Ten — with public meetings in the summer and fall. A city consultant is expected to present some feedback on possible changes in early 2016.
