A winding mountain road in Pickens County has reopened after work to secure loose rocks on the side of a cliff was completed.

A rock slide sent debris and mud across Cove Road on March 26, and the road remained closed long after the debris was cleared out of concern for the rocks still hanging overhead. The city of Jasper reopened both lanes to traffic on Sunday afternoon.

In the nearly two weeks Cove Road was shut down, geo stabilization crews worked to remove large portions of loose rock and trees above the roadway with the potential to fall.

Although stabilization work was completed Sunday, the road was closed again on Monday to allow Georgia Power crews to replace power lines in the area. It was reopened again by Monday afternoon.
