Woodstock officials said only one candidate qualified to run for the vacant Ward 6 City Council seat during a special qualifying period that ended Friday. Rob Usher, a former Cherokee county school board member and 18-year Woodstock resident, is the lone contender.
If no write-in candidate qualifies before the write-in period ends at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 23, the March 17 special election will be canceled and Usher will be certified as the winner, taking office immediately after that, said City Clerk Rhonda Pezzello.
The seat opened up after council member Tessa Basford died on Oct. 6.
