You're probably aware that today is International Women's Day, an annual event that has recognized women's achievements and issues for many decades.

But you may be surprised to find out that it's also International Women's Brew Day, a female-forward brewing collaboration in its infancy.

While the latter holiday has yet to garner recognition from the United Nations, its existence is evident in north Fulton County this year.

Georgia Girls Pint Out, an all-female organization that promotes solidarity between women beer drinkers, is hosting an event at Abbey of the Holy Goats in Roswell. Guests will drink the brewery's beer while helping founder and "favorite lady-head-brewer" Kathy Davis brew a new batch, says the Facebook event page.

Davis, whose small-scale operation produces Belgian-style beers and traditional sour ales, lays claim to the title of Georgia's first female brewery owner.

The event takes place Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at 4000 Northfield Way. Admission is $15 at the door.
