Kennesaw officials held their first of three public hearings Monday on proposed property tax increases with no one commenting.

The other hearings will be 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. July 20 at Kennesaw City Hall, Council Chambers, 2529 J.O. Stephenson Ave.

The proposed tax increase for a house with a fair market value of $153,616 is around $31 and another $5 increase for the bond.

For non-homestead property with a fair market value of $320,488, the proposed annual tax increase is around $63 and an $11 increase for the bond.

In spite of the city’s website announcement, Mayor Mark Mathews said Monday, “We’re not increasing taxes. Your tax to the city will not go up because we froze that many, many years ago.”

City officials tentatively have adopted a millage rate that will require an increase in property taxes by 6.61 percent for the millage rate and 6.46 percent for the bond rate.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 8 mills and 1.5 mills for the bond, an increase of .496 mills for the millage rate and .091 for the bond rate.
