The move to change Johns Creek's charter and allow flexibility in the city's tax cap has died for now.
City officials split, 4-3, on the proposal. The measure would have initiated a drive in the Legislature to get the charter changed to allow for a simple majority of voters to approve raising the tax lid. Currently, the charter requires a majority of all qualified voters to lift the cap on taxes, meaning turnout for the referendum would have to exceed 50 percent.
City officials plan to resurrect the proposal after a citizens charter commission meets in December.
