Darrel Price has helped his community as a DeKalb County police officer for nine years, but now he needs the community to help him.

On July 29 between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., five percent of the proceeds from Dunkin Donuts at 2555 Wesley Chapel Road in Decatur will go to Price’s fight against cancer.

The longtime DeKalb officer is battling stage II Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a cancer that has begun to spread to other lymph nodes in his stomach, according to a fundraising page for him.

In April, he noticed an odd growth on his right leg in his groin area. A series of visits to the doctor found he had cancer, according to a flyer distributed for the Dunkin Donuts event.

“Officer Darrel is the proud father of three children with his newly married wife,” the flyer reads. “He has also been a regular member of Bethel Family Church for the past 15 years.”

Anyone interested in donating can attend the July 29 fundraiser or donate directly to his GoFundMe page, which has raised $475 as of this writing.
