A Gwinnett County sushi restaurant failed its second straight routine health inspection last week, with "multiple packages of food being stored with packages of toxic chemical cleaners" among the reported violations.
Sushi Naru, located at 3473 Old Norcross Road in Duluth, received a 31/U on the Friday afternoon inspection. The restaurant's permit was briefly suspended while on-site training was performed.
According to the inspection report, several foods were being kept at improper temperatures and raw fish was found stored over ready to eat foods. An official also watched an employee "pick up wrapped food off floor and touch [a] clean pan" without washing their hands.
Two hand-washing sinks did not have paper towels, the report said, and the restaurant did not have proper documentation for live clams kept in a tank and served to customers.
"Ice bin interior, microwave oven interior, multiple knives, and multiple hand held vegetable slicers not being kept clean to sight and touch," the report added.
Friday's failing grade is the second straight on a routine inspection for the restaurant. It received a 65/U on May 12, records show.
Reached Tuesday, an employee at Sushi Naru declined to comment about the restaurant's most recent issues. A follow-up inspection will be completed within 10 days of Friday's failing evaluation.
