Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Trout Unlimited and the National Park Service will hold their first "Sweep the Hooch" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event is a multi-site cleanup within the 48 miles of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
Volunteers will fill three different roles: Walkers will pick up trash and perform trail maintenance; waders will collect trash from the shallow water areas; and paddlers use kayaks and canoes to collect debris in the stream. Organizers say they already have sufficient volunteer labor for the sweep.
