The Duluth City Council voted recently to amend the alcoholic beverages ordinance by adding a license fee of $1,750 for a wine bar.

The city voted in Feb. to amend the alcohol ordinance to allow a wine bar in the Central Business District. The newly allowed establishments will be able to sell and serve beer and wine by the drink for consumption on the premises, except on Sundays, and to sell wine by the package.

Before the change to allow wine bars, the ordinance prohibited package sales in a bar or tavern setting where alcoholic beverages are sold for consumption on the premises.
