Over 160 golfers making up 41 teams teed up and showed their support for The Fifth annual Tourney for TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Aug. 30 - 31 at the Dunwoody Country Club to raise money for the local organization that works with breast cancer survivors.
For the past 12 years, TurningPoint has been working on its mission to improve the qualify of life for women with breast cancer by providing, promoting and advocating specialized and evidence-based rehabilitation.
Founded by two-time cancer survivor Jill Binkley, the organization aimed to fill a missing need of specialized rehabilitative services for patients like her, living with and surviving breast cancer.
“TurningPoint provides much needed support and education for women going through breast cancer treatment and beyond,” said Binkley. “What makes TurningPoint unique is the atmosphere of encouragement and wealth of information on healthy choices to promote healing and reduce risk of recurrence.”
TurningPoint addresses the critical needs of breast cancer survivors through a collaboration of specialized services and programs: physical therapy, exercise, massage therapy, emotional counseling and nutritional counseling and patient education.
The money raised at the golf tournament will go towards the services that TurningPoint offers its clients.
To make TurningPoint’s mission a successful one, volunteers can always assist the organization by helping at the major fundraisers and other special projects throughout the year.
“Our goal is to help restore quality of life in our patients and reduce physical limitations, emotional and psychological stresses and support our patients and their families as they deal with cancer treatment and beyond,” added Binkley.
Since its founding in 2003, the Roswell-based organization has served nearly 3,000 women including a record 400 new patients in 2014.
In other news: Kroger shoppers in the Atlanta raised nearly $130,000 for local food banks during the "Pour It Forward" drive Aug. 30 – Sept. 12. The proceeds benefit local food pantries who struggle to provide milk and other essential food items to families facing hunger and malnutrition.
